Santa Cruz and San Cristóbal

You’ll find exuberant vegetation, unique wild life, and amazing volcanic formations. In Pto. Ayora there is the Charles Darwin Scientific Stations, where Lonely George lives. The unique land and marine iguanas can be found in the nearby Island Plaza Sur. *Option 1: diving immersion (Discovery) in the San Cristobal Island, no license for open water required. San Cristobal is the closest island to the continent where Pto. Baquerizo is located, capital of the Galapagos Province. The nearby uninhabited islands of Lobos and Leon Dormido are unique places to practice scuba diving and snorkeling. In the Center of the Archipelago is Santa Cruz. At the high point we find the giant turtles in their natural state while you walk through the longest lava tunnels in Galapagos.

Natural Enchantment in the Center of the Archipelago

Since the creation of Galapagos Nacional Park, Santa Cruz has been fundamental for the conservation and management of the archipelago. Learn about the Giant Tortoises in the Charles Darwin Scientific Station and of Lonely George, last survivor of his species. Tortuga Bay is a marvelous beach with an incredible number of marine and land birds, especially Darwin’s fiches. In the close uninhabited island Seymour North, you’ll meet the playful sea lions and land and marine iguanas, sole in the world. The biggest frigate colony is here. In the high part of Santa Cruz, you can go through the longest lava tunnels in Galapagos.

Due to it’s geographic location, Pto. Ayora in Santa Cruz, has been the center of the conservation and studies of Galapagos. Lonely George is the most known animal in the Charles Darwin Scientific Station, which is located in this island. Here you’ll see the giant turtles in their semi natural state. After we’ll visit Seymour North, an inhabited island which contains the largest number of frigates, blue footed boobies, as well as marine and land iguanas, unique in the world. An iconic symbol in the Bartolome Island.thePinakle Rock as the background, a lunar landscape appears full of cone volcanoes. Swim in the bay of the island with the sea lions and penguins.

The second biggest NOC with 10 km. is part of the Sierra Negra volcano on the south of Isabella Island. You’ll experience first hand the human history of Galapagos, on Floreana Island travel through pirates hideouts, whale hunters and the Galapagos Colonists.

Snorkeling is amazing while playing with sea lions and admired the dozens of tropical fish of all sizes and colors on Leon Dormido and Isla Lobos.
