Guayaquil City Tour, Tropical and Colorful

To get to know Ecuador’s main port, you have to walk along the narrow streets of Las Peñas quarter and through the modern and colorful traits of the Malecón 2000 along side the river Guayas. In the Iguana Park not only will you visit the iguanas but also the Neo Gothic Cathedral. In the Historical Park we’ll visit buildings of the early 20th century and a permanent exposition of flora and fauna of the Ecuadorian Coast.

Dolphins and Mangroves in the Peninsula

The estuary of the Guayas River is only a couple hours away from Guayaquil, the economic capital of Ecuador. An hour and a half from Puerto El Morro, we’ll observe aquatic birds such as the herons, frigate birds and tropical cormorant’s. The dolphins enter the estuary from the open sea and surround us with their usual dives and calls. In one of the islands of the Guayas River we’ll take a walk around the immense colonies of the birds.

The Golden Seed and the Banana

During the 19th Century the country lived primarily off of the Cacao. Even after numerous plagues that almost decimate the production of this fruit, the Ecuadorian Aroma Cacao has become the preferred variety in the international markets. We’ll visit and learn about the farming and harvest of the cacao. On the great planes of the Ecuadorian Coast of the provinces of Guayas and El Oro the banana is produced. We’ll visit the plantations that make Ecuador the world’s primary exporter of banana.

The Spondylus Route

The proximity to the Pacific Coast has made the people vary open minded. In the past the precious and scarce spondylus shell made the Manteños be the most undaunted navigator’s of the Pacific Coast in South America. The ocean will be our base of our diverse experiences in our excursions to: archeological sites and in the unique ecosystems of Western Ecuador. We’ll visit the beautiful dry tropical forest, as well as the humid and mangroves. You’ll be astonished by the breath taking sunsets of the province of Manabí. And the observation of the humpback whales that take place from July to October.

Weavers from Montecristi (Panama Hats)

From the city fishing city of Manta, we’ll head to Montecrisi, home of the straw shawl hats and of one of the most famous presidents of Ecuador of the 20th Century: Eloy Alfaro. The famous Super Fine hats, which take a long time of hard work, it can take up to 6 months. In the city of Manta visit the archeological museum or take a walk along the amazing Murciélago Beach. Recently the tagua has raisen admiration from tourist because of its great similarities with ivory.
